Effects question BOSS GT 10

I am currently running a Boss GT 10 thru my Fender Deluxe Hot Rod Amp.  I have noticed that when playing on a clean channel and using my NECK pickup (humbucker), when I hit lower strings (low E) with anu authority, output is often slightly distorted.  The happens with both of my guitars.  If I take the Effects board out and plug directly into the amp, the distortion goes away.  it also doea not happen if I am in the bridge position.

A similar thing happens when I use my old Digitech Legend II effects unit, but the BOSS unit it is much less pronounced.  Is this a common with effects?  I may have never heard it before bacuase I have always has crappy amps.

I just upgraded my GT 5 to a GT 10 and I havent heard anything like that. although I have a few pointers taht I use all the tiem to get the best sound I can.

#1 crank your amp. always. and control your volume with the output knob on the gt 10
#2 keep your "master" and "effect level" levels lower in your patches and use the output knob to boost your volume

If you turn your drive up but keep your master or effect level or "volume" in each patch down then you can get good break up in the signal. and when you output it with a low volume setting, you'll get a nice clean sound, even if its an overdriven sound (we're talking just the signal here).  Then with your amp cranked up it'll almost act like a power attenuator (kind of, that might actually be a  bad example).  Then control your volume through the gt 10 output knob.

If you ahve the volume/master/e.level settings high.  then you're going to have a distorted signal before you even get the chance to push it with your amp.  Plus if you want to play quietly you can have your map cranked to 7 or 8a nd just turn down the output knob and you've got nice breakup and low volumes.

Also try turning down your bass knob on your amp.  after all you do get more bass freq's out of the neck pup.

to summarize my very disorganized post.

Crank amp. Lower individual patch volume. control everything with output knob.

I shoulda slept in longer. im going back to bed.

First, how do you have the GT10 connected?  Guitar - GT10 - Amp?  4-cable method?

It sounds like the output of the GT10 is clipping the preamp section of your amplifier.  Try turning down the output of the GT10.  This is similar to what VA was suggesting above.

it goes...GUITAR..SAMSON WIRELESS...GT10...AMP.  I also have an output on the wireless...this may help  because I have alway done the opposite.  I have the Effect pedal cranked at least 1/3 to 1/2 way.  My amp is barely above 1.  I would assume the same would apply to the wireless?

Have you tried the setup without the wireless?  It still sounds to me like you're overdriving the amp input.  Is any part of the wireless battery powered?  If so, have you tried fresh batteries?  I know the questions may sound stupid, but surprisingly enough, the solution for things like this is usally in the simple, not the complex.

I had some very annoying issues with minor but ugly clipping when I just got my GT-8. Solution: make sure your input/output levels in the unit are set properly, it was my input levels that caused the clipping in my case. The GT-8 has a visual monitor which is very helpful, I can't imagine they've removed it from the '10.

Apart from this, how are you liking the GT-10?

well it is not the GT 10...I took the wireless out of the equation and the clipping went away.  I will screw with the gain levels on the wireless and see what I can do.

I am loving the GT10.  This thing can do SOOOOOO much I am sure I am only scratching the surface.  I was just toying aound with some acoustic sounds.  No need to swap guitars!  We could almost have a sticky thread on the GT10 alone!!

Anyone know how to get a 12 string sound??

I've got a GT10 as well (updated recently from a GT3).  Absolutely love it, but as you said, I've likely just scratched the surface of what it is capable of.
