Ebony vs Ebony Black?

Just wondering if anyone could post some pictures of ebony and ebony black necks.
From the swatches on warmoth I really like the darker of the two but if I would see them on actual guitar it might make my decision a bit easier cause I do not want to spring an extra 50$ for a "maybe"

The standard ebony that we have here would be open to having some wood streaks in it whereas ebony (black) would be the darkest material that we have on hand and would be giving you the "jet black" look that everyone is used to. We don't dye the ebony at all so the possibility of have some added wood grain is going to be there. Consider it a kiss from Mother Nature! And depending on the piece being used, macassar ebony is at times highly littered with blond streaks. Either one used would be great!  :icon_thumright:

Standard Ebony means they pick random wood from the stockpile. It could be black, or it could have streaks.
Black Ebony means they pick a piece with no streaking. Everyone knows what that looks like, but you can check the fretboard gallery for specific examples.

This is what Macassar can look like

This fingerboard is just "ebony" with no modifier, and it has a wee blonde fleck near the first fret:

Generally speaking, I prefer black Ebony. But, every once in a while you'll see a piece of Macassar that's just incredible. Updown got a neck a couple years ago that'll make you want to hide in the bathroom for a few minutes... See here

And here's my Black Ebony Fretboard Unique choice custom build (which is black as)  :icon_thumright:

This one was a showcase Ebony on Pau-Ferro (sex on a stick)

This one has very slight browning in it. But pretty black still.

I'd like it if we could ask Warmoth for the ebony to be dyed black. I'm with Bob Taylor on his "let's use ALL the ebony" thing, it just makes good sense economically and environmentally. But from a purely aesthetic point of view, I'd like the option to have it all-black.

I know that Stew Mac sells dye marketed for making ebony jet black, and I suppose you'd just have to do it yourself.  I thought Warmoth didn't want any part of the ebony dying thing because someone would say that the more expensive actually jet black stuff was dyed, being misrepresented, and sold at a premium.  I don't care if the wood was dyed, but I guess I'd have to do it myself.  I do understand why this is the case.

Not all cuts of Macassar Ebony are extremely stripey and colorful. That's a good example of a more subtle piece. My Strat neck is subtlety decorated with tan stripes, as well. (Unique Choice fretboard.)

I have used that Stew Mac black dye on a Macassar Ebony rear cover and it works great.  You would never know it was dyed by looking at it.

Maybe not - I imagine there are solvents in it that would make it flammable or combustible - but I doubt it's anything special. It's black dye. Surely somebody in Oz sells black dye.

Here's a photo of my ebony fretboard. Has a few light streaks but only noticeable if up close. It's exactly what I wanted. :) my thinking is if I'm buying nice wood, I want it to look like nice wood. Haha.
