dyed spalt maple?

I can't imagine why you'd want to. Then again, I have my stickers on upside down and have electrical tape over my volume knob hole.

Tee Hee. You said knob hole. I have nothing worthwhile to contribute to this thread.  :tard:

i know it's probably not usual, but i was thinking a light colored dye might look cool on it?

and just out of curiosity where does everyone get their spalted tops? i cant find anything on warmoth

They show up from time to time. Best bet would be to call directly to see what they have. Personally, I'd prefer to wait until one gets up on the showcase because then you can actually see what you're getting. I've seen some really nice spalt tops and I've seen others that do nothing for me.

tobacco burst may work

You could get by with a transparent finish and tons of base coat.  Spalt can be very inconsistent in terms of density and punkiness.  I could see it taking a dye very unevenly.

I believe it was brubaker i saw that had done a number of spalted maple bass with dyes or paint like green and what not.

However, I have seen several in the showcase with a honey burst that look quite nice.
There is currently such a tele at this location:

http://www.warmoth.com/Showcase/ShowcaseItem.aspx?i=pt1860&Body=2&Path=Body

that looks beautiful! and the rosewood neck that is recommended with it would make a killer combination. Somebody buy it.

i thought I read somewhere that you don't dye spalt because it'd absorb too much. and like Wyliee said, it's very uneven or inconsistent in grain structure

That white five-string is pure sex!  :hello2: I love how only parts of the grain is dyed and most parts are left alone, beautiful paintjob!

Those essentially look like bursts with transparent finished.  Big difference from a dye finish.  Notice how some of the bursting carefully follows the figure, it could have been taped off first.

Wyliee shouldn't you be  :occasion14: instead of posting on the boards on a saturday night?  Can't get enough of us?  Then again, if I workd where you did, I'd want to talk shop all the time too!!

Hey wait a minute.......  I should be :occasion14: instead of posting....... Damnit I knew I was forgetting to do something  :toothy12:

can i order a tele thinline from warmoth without the laminate top and use my own?

Nope.  If you have a specific piece of wood in mind, check out the unique choice options.

You guys do allow people to send you pieces they have though correct?  Wasn't there a guy who had some flamed Koa that he sent you to make a strat and a tele?

I looked into this and while they will do it, they try to discourage it and unless the wood is really unique or has some kind of higher personal value, there's not much to be gained in doing it.

Agreed.  In costs the same and usually takes longer to do.  Customer supplied wood needs to acclimate and be cut down properly.
