Anyone have any solid techniques to keeping this as level and exact as possible? I figure I have an idea of how to do this well but am no expert here. Appreciate any tips!

Some masking tape on the body top will let you mark on it. Locate the ring as best you can and just mark one hole. Drill that, and install the ring so it's held in place by the one screw. Now it won't move vertically or laterally, but it'll rotate. Get it square, and use the ring as a template to locate/drill the balance of the holes.

It also couldn't hurt and would be a good idea to have the pickup in the ring when you mark the first hole to make sure you've got it right.

Hi
I found this video online, hope this helps a bit.

That's a good reference, thanks. I have no issues with finish cracking as it's a tung oil finish in the works, but that's good info! The starter screw and rotation seems the way to go
