double sided guitar/bass

Was browsing on ebay for no particular reason and saw this:

I've actually had this idea before for a righty/lefty guitar (my son is left handed, would be kind of cool but totally not practical).

Seems kinda gimmicky, to the point where I'd think it would be almost unplayable, but who knows? Maybe the reality is different than the thought. Or, maybe it was designed for an unusual purpose, like a movie/video prop or something.

Had a look at the manufacturer website. $2500 list for this weird contraption? $12500 list for the same monstrosity in accoustic form? Pay by phone without mention of how much that will actually tun out to be on the first page? Nah, don't really think so.
