Whenever I see that guitar, I always think to myself, "You know, if the luthier had intervened early enough, maybe a couple of those guitars could have gone on to live somewhat normal, adjusted lives. "

It's about a show, not being functional.  Cheap Trick's audience I'd bet is not entirely other musicians.  Imagine all the oohs and aahs when the forklift brought that thing out.

I wonder how long doublenecks sit around in the shop.... I suspect it's on the order of many months->yearish. Yeah, it's flashy and says 'we can do whatever you want', but sitting on inventory is tough.

No doubt. I only have 10 guitars now, and I could probably build 150 more before I'd consider a double neck, and even then I'd probably only think about it rather than do it. I know that's just me, but I'd bet many people feel that way. They're a barely useful anomaly that only exists for flash purposes. It's nice to know you could get one if you needed it, but past that?

It's really only ´necessary` in a live setting. And unless your in a Zep cover band - how often do you find yourself in that setting?
