The starter of this thread has pulled their account.. just sayin..  :laughing7:

It worked!  In that case we can all cut the charade.  We all know dying walnut green is a great idea.

Hehe! No doubt. Then you put black grain filler over that, and after sanding it back, you check the Sears Super Sunday Sales Spectacular for this week's sale on Sears Best Easy Living Latex. You'll probably find you can get a whole gallon of the stuff for less than $20, so a Cushy Persimmon finish is only 20 scant minutes  away.

Hmm, there's member named Jonn asking about walnut in another thread:  http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=13376.0

Coincidence?  You be the judge...  I think I'll go over to that thread and suggest green as a color suggestion.  Who's in?

I dunno if walnut needs much grainfiller or not, but as a general piece of advice: "What CB said".

Walnut isn't as needy as mahogany, but it can use up some grain filler. I recently did a custom head enclosure out of walnut, and it took 5 coats of filler before it levelled out. Pretty time-consuming. On the plus side, it looks really nice and I got one helluva lotta exercise out of the deal <grin>

So has anybody been to the new thread lately? I told him to do it green and he said that's exactly what he was thinkin. WTF?? Makes me wonder.

I think it is hilarious that you suggested that and he was like "yeah, I know, right?"  I was half joking about re-suggesting that.

That had me rolling. I cant believe he didn't pickup on it. Oh well. Silly kid. Now we need to embrace him because most 13 year old kids really don't want anything to do with their dads. Especially not building a green walnut guitar. Could be worse he could be wanting a slime green Dimebag guitar like his buddies. Maybe we shouldn't bust his balls too bad. I'm going to go be nice now. :occasion14:

Good points!  Who knows, he could end up being the next Brian May who built his guitar with his dad...

... and in fifteen years, when it's considered cool, all you guys, who dissed it, will be making your own "Green Special." :)

The tone we take with each other can be kind of... stunning, for somebody who just wandered in looking for advice. Which is not to say a dumb idea becomes a good idea just because the idea-er is innocent of knowledge, but I kinda try not to just DUMP on a newbie until... it becomes time to DUMP on them. As instructed by the Secret Warmoth Decoder RIng.... :o

FTR I saw some 'enthusiastic' sentiments, but don't recall anything really inflammatory. I'm also on a tiny screen and don't want to scroll back through them all.

It's just such a beautiful wood. You can spray metallic or pearl over AAAAA quilt tops if you like too. (But I'd certainly hope Warmoth wouldn't do it for you. Besides - if you're need to be unique is that strong, you should be painting it yourself anyway.)
