Do all VIP and Velocity bodies need finish?

When it comes to bodies no one says you have to have a finish. What are you looking for? Personally i like either an oily wood with no finish or a finish. A dry wood feels strange to me.

Down in the swamps of Louisiana, weather swings from drought to 99% humidity, I'm sure without any seal, the wood would Crack, so I suppose it depends on the climate where your guitar resides. ? Idk, I enjoy finishing, its wood art

Was wondering if I could get an all roasted (ash or alder) VIP body and roasted maple neck, and just leave it all dry. Perhaps burnish.

I've never played a roasted body so I'll have to defer ... that said i don't see why not. I know it would look great.

Roasted Alder and Roasted Swamp ash are on my radar for the future... particularly since I missed out on a very nice one in the Black Friday sale (you snooze, you lose...)

Thought on this a moment. If roasted ash or alder looks good to you as a body, I see no reason why you can’t burnish it and call it good.

I mean we do it necks our hands are all over the neck. No gunk issues. The body gets touched a significant amount less than the neck.

I wouldn’t worry about weather swings. The neck is the impacted item. If it’s what you to do, I say soldier on and send pics of the build.
