Distortion pedal for Twin Reverb

I've had problems finding a distortion (not overdrive), pedal for my Twin Reverb.  Does anyone here have a pedal recommendation specifically for this amp?

What sound are you after might be a better question than what amp you're playing.

Well, you're probably going to want something that doesn't scoop the midrange, but beyond that, it's kind of like you asking us what your favorite color should be.  :icon_biggrin: :dontknow:

Any local pedal shops around you?

And check out this vid if you haven't seen it already, good stuff:

The best distorted sound I have ever had was with my Twin and my -75 Gibson SG Standard. No pedals, but the amp was on full(!) Preamp, Treble, Mid and Master. And the Master boost(?) was on (pot pulled out). The only thing that wasn't on full was the Bass which I had on 2.

Of course it was deafening loud, but that's another story  :laughing7:

I guess the question I should be asking is there a more organic, less digitally sounding version of a Metal Zone?  My other distortion pedals don't seem to maintain the same level of gain and tightness (for lack of a better word, I'm not sure how else to describe it), once they're at a loud volume on my Twin.
I am interested in that MXR 5150 pedal.  It has a boost and noise gate built in.  The videos I've seen of that sound promising.  I guess I'll actually have to go to Guitar Center today.  At least I can take advantage of my String Club membership.  I signed up last year, and I haven't been back since to get my free strings.

The best distorsion/overdrive pedal I have ever tried is the Pinnacle by Wampler. It should give you all the gain/distorsion you need and is able to make an incredible EVH brown sound. Highly recommended.

I just pulled the trigger on the MXR 5150.  I traded in my Noise Suppressor, Metal Zone,  and noisy Carl Martin Plexitone.  The 5150's noise gate and boost (which supposedly adds compression as well),  feature sold me on it.  It's a gamble since there wasn't a 5150 in stock at the store, but how bad can it be?  It also takes a 9v battery, whereas the Plexitone didn't.  The Plexi had to be plugged in.  If the 5150 doesn't satisfy me, I feel like I'm going to buy a Boss DS-1 and call it good.

This video goes thru what they are like.

There seems to be a loss of treble & in the video they compensated that by using one of Eddie's arsenal (MXR Carbon Copy Bright). The added noise gate is a good idea, distortion pedals buzz madly in the best of environments.

Barber Gain Changer.  Barber builds with Fender input circuitry in mind - the majority of other pedals I've tried result in thin and raspy tones.

On the subject of hearing, check this out...

I saw that a while ago on YT. The emotional responses from the people is similar to what I had when I had my first pair of hearing aids fitted. It's quite emotional on two levels.

Firstly, you can hear things you'd never thought you'd hear properly again.

Secondly, you are confronted with how BAD you're existing natural hearing is, and that it needs this sort of equipment to get it back somewhere near normal.

I'm sceptical on his claims about restoring hearing but if it works for some, then it is all OK by me!

I'm doing OK myself with Oticons, they are like the Neumanns of hearing aids and do very well in most environments tbh. Cost a bit tho.

I guess it's a little bit similar to eyesight, when I was tested for my first pair of spectacles, I was shocked at the difference.

As far as I know my hearing is OK, although I almost could not hear in my left ear a couple of years back due to wax, but that was handled with olive oil.

I received the MXR 5150 today and am very satisfied with it.  The noise gate works great and saves me the trouble of having another pedal to handle noise.  The boost doesn't do much except change the tone slightly when the distortion is set at low overdrive levels.
When I run my Warmoth strat with a Duncan JB through the 5150 it comes as close to awesome EVH tones as you can get with a Twin Reverb.  Most importantly, it keeps the tone it has a lower volumes even when cranked up.  My Plexitone pedal seemed to lose some distortion and become more overdriven sounding as I turned the Twin up. Great sounds with this pedal!
