Die-Cut Vinyl Headstock Decals?

Warmoth told me their supplier for the metal headstock logos went out of business, and they haven't found a new supplier that can make a quality replacement.  So I ordered a die-cut vinyl decal to put on the headstock of a neck I'm finishing with wipe-on poly.  From what I can tell, I just peel it off, stick it on, then peel off the adhesive backing, similar to the Warmoth logos.  This one appears to be a little thicker, which makes me think I shouldn't try to finish over it.

I've read that nitro will eat away at vinyl logos, and shouldn't be sprayed over them.  I've found conflicting opinions on poly, with some saying it's fine and others saying there will be a reaction over time.  My question is, would I be better off just sticking it on after the finish has cured?  Or do I try to add additional coats of poly over the logo?  This whole DIY finishing thing is new to me, I'm not sure how these types of decals are intended to be used.  Thanks.

Nothing looks tackier than a vinyl decal on top of a finish.  :dontknow:

I would test on scrap wood first, and if it didn't work out, seek out another material.

I agree.

The vinyl stickers are too thick to bury in the finish, and they look cheap and tacky applied on top of the finish. If you want to bury a logo or something, it needs to be a waterslide decal. You can buy them online, and there are places that will create custom stuff for pretty reasonably. Or, you can buy blank waterslide decal paper and print your own if you have a laser printer.

Another alternative: many trophy shops have laser etching gear that can cut your logo directly into the wood:
