Diamondback/SG control layout on a Tele?

Hello - did a quick search, but I didn’t find anything so I figured I’d ask you fine folks.

I’m interested in doing a tele build but with SG layout controls. I know there’s already an option for LP controls and I have a tele body with that layout.

It looks like the Diamondback body has an SG layout (2 vol/2 tone, toggle above, input jack below). This isn’t an available selection from Warmoth for a tele body, but does anyone know if they can customize that? I know the answer will probably be “ask them” and that will be my next step; just didn’t know if anyone has gotten in front of this before.

Thanks!

To my eye, that's just drilling two holes oneself, for the toggle switch and output jack after ordering with the LP layout. What challenges stand in your way that we might possibly help with in doing that?

They’re foundationally two different layouts. The volume/tone are closer together and the control routing is much larger in the SG to provide space for both the toggle and the input jack.IMG_2127.jpegIMG_2126.jpeg

That is not the case on a rear rout tele, though. If you choose rear rout, the cavity will be the same size regardless which controls you choose.

I'd say there should be enough space to drill them yourself, but I'm not sure.

Thats not true. The Strat/Tele and I believe thinline layouts all share the large Warmoth cavity. The LP layout has a LP size cavity.

I don’t think the Tele has wide enough hips to support the exact same orientation

Which is why I want the SG layout. The vol/tone pots are more in a square shape and less diamond like the LP. That bottom volume pot is essentially where the input jack would be placed. I’ve seen the SG layout on tele.

Also the SG isn’t as wide as it looks. It’s only due to the “waist” being cinched in the middle. The tele and the SG are both 12.75” inches wide.

Oh yeah I didn’t articulate that well… I mean to say that particular rear rout doesn’t follow the hips of the Tele as cleanly.

I’m a big fan of the concept - here’s a render I designed a few years back for the ultimate Tele/SG hybrid, except I rendered it with Hamer style controls.

No, you’re correct there. It would probably need to be pivoted a few degrees. Sounds like I’ll have to route it myself which isn’t a big deal. Just trying to avoid the hassle. This is just an AI mockup, but I think it’s definitely doable.

That’s a cool body - familiar yet different!
