Decals or logos on unfinished wood

What would be the best way to apply a logo to an unfinished wenge headstock?

I would finish just the headstock that way your logo will not get scratched up and you still get the benefit of playing on an unfinished neck (esp. if you go down the route of water slide decals).

that is how we did it on luke's strat. we just finished the face of the headstock and sandwiched the decal inbetween coats.
