I never said they were the only bass players that matter. I said I can hear their influences in his playing. The harmonic structure of his solos, the clean clear crisp tone, the solid chops honed through hours of wood shedding etc.

I agree with this. I'm not particularly fond of this band. But so what? You're going to call me an idiot for not having the same taste as you? Should I say that you're musically inept because you don't like the bands that I like?

Come on. You like the band, good for you. Just don't try to act like it's your religion and everyone must follow you. It's not your role to defend them. Different tastes in music is what makes the whole world of it interesting. I like irish folk music and progressive metal, and I want to attempt to mix those two into one. If I had the same taste in music as everyone else, that would never happen.

All in all, be proud of the music you like, but don't try to force it down other people's throats. No one likes that.

My ears may never recover; Rebecca Black's Friday may be a new paradigm in which the parodies of the original video are even WORSE, which I'm having a hard time grokking could even be possible... Where's Travis Bickle know that we REALLY need him?

You're taking it personal. Don't. You act like they are picking on you, not the band. People here have the guts to be blunt about what they think and if they think it sucks, they say so. Why would you try to force them to like what you like? That's the work of a dictator.

It's a quintessentially fallacious sentiment to equate someone criticising an idea one might hold as being synonymous with someone criticising the person holding the idea.

indeed. I've known about these guys since 2003 or 2004. I'd kill to see them live. if anyone is interested, I'm in the process of making an all instrumental version of their EP and LP. I'm recording the bass parts, and I'm going to program the drums at first, but I'm going to have my drummer for Matador record real drums and mix them in.

funny you call JFK a killer bassist, though. DFA79 is the first time he played bass in a band. and after DFA, he never went back. so...not quite a bassist, but talented, none the less.

I saw DFA1979 play at Emo's in Austin.  It was O.K.

The highlight was when the band toyed a bit with a heckler in the crowd, engaging in some (to my ears) polite and tasteful banter.  When the heckling continued on for more than what even to me seemed seemly, the drummer tolerated it a bit.  Then at one point he looked at the gadfly straight in the eye and blandly informed him in no uncertain terms that if there were an actual, sincere problem, that he'd be more than happy to settle it after the show.  The heckling stopped.

For us fans of this band, this is kind of huge, so if you don't like them, you really don't need to listen to them or post here.  They are honestly one of my favorite bands currently and this is just awesome for me, so just let me have my moment of awe here, ok?
