I'm in the midst of overhauling an old Strat and while investigating pickups I have seen recommendations of David Allen pickups.

Anyone familiar with them? I have some interest in the Dover and the Echoes set, they seem interesting.

I am curious about the Echoes set, where the bright pickup has a dual output. I am unfamiliar with that.

I played a set of their P90's and their 53 tele set at Guitar Showcase in San Jose and they were solid pickups.  I'd say they're on par with the better quality corresponding Gibson/Fender offerings, not amazingly better.  But I hold that the player's technique and amp choices weigh heavily here, and perhaps I'm just not a good enough player to appreciate the ways in which they differ from the standards they are based on.  They were very good, just not substantially better than what they set out to improve upon, in my view.

That's my experience with them, as well.

I liked the '54 set in sound demos and almost bought them but alas I cannot speak to working with them in person. Lot of people like D Allen stuff.
