Custom Strat Neck - Back Contour? First time Warmoth

Hello gents,

I'm building my own Strat and am debating on a Warmoth neck and what back contour to choose.  I recently tried out a Fender Vintage Hot Rod '62 and John Mayer signature Strats and LOVE the neck profile - 1 5/8" nut, "Thick" C Shape.  The Fender "Modern C" is nice too, but I don't want anything thinner than that.  My question (and seemingly a quite popular one) is how does Warmoth's Standard Thin neck profile compare to the Fender Modern C?  If it's any thinner I don't want it.

Second question - anyone find a Warmoth neck back contour that's slightly thicker than the Modern C?

thick c? thats warmoth's fat back I suppose. there are very few guitars that aren't custom build with a thicker neck. my custombuild guitars have a 1.2'' neck, and those are my personal favorites.

I'd say the "Wolfgang" would be slightly thicker than the Standard Thin.  I'm just the opposite from you; I wouldn't want anything thicker than the Standard Thin. Of course the "Wizard" is too thin for Me, but the Wizard-II is nice.

Well according to this: http://www.strat-talk.com/forum/stratocaster-discussion-forum/58614-neck-profiles-thread.html, the 'Thick C' is .875" at the first, and .980" at the 12th. The 59 round-back gets you pretty close to that at .860" at the first, and .960" at the 12th.

The boat and fatback are both 1" at the 1st and the 12th, so they'd be thicker than the Thick C and non tapering, but another option none-the-less.

If you loved this profile go with the '59, the next two are too fat for you. Always go with the thickest profile you can handle for "better" tone & neck stability.

The standard thin from W is very, very close to the current American Standard strat contour. The '59 is noticeably fatter but not massive, it's my fave and a fave of the forum in general, shredders / midgets excluded.  :toothy10:
To my hands, the '59 profile matches the PRS "wide fat" exactly to a T - that's what's on all the PRS SE models that you can play anywhere. Not so sure about the John Mayer strat.

I saw an interview with Phil Collen, and was surprised to find out he plays baseball bats strung with 13's. It can be done, apparently. Wrong on both counts  :icon_jokercolor:
