Custom Shell Truss Rod Covers

I was searching the net for custom truss rod covers and ran across this site, and thought I would share.  I need to check with him and see if he will do custom sizes and shapes.  Of note, check out Style "A."  Seems like Gibson has threatened to sue him for using their truss rod cover shape.  It's not like Gibson makes anything this nice for one to customize their Les Paul.  Anyway, see here:  http://www.luthiersupply.com/pearltrussrodcoverpage.html

I couldn't agree with you more.  I have one Gibson in my collection.  Times like this make me want to sell it.

My understanding is the law requires someone to either defend their trademarks or lose them.

So I think one should save their anger for either the folks who granted trademark protection to something trivial or the folks who came up with the trademark laws in the first place.

Yes, the law does require that you police your own trademarks. There are just cooler ways to do it than steamrolling little guys who have no intent nor ability to harm you by making things that fit into the universe of which you are the master.

Well, I can't argue with that example as it's very cool.

But do you think JD would have been so nice if someone was selling, say, whiskey glasses instead of a book? Or whiskey?

THey may have been more forceful.  But still - some guy making MOP truss rod covers is in no danger of eroding Gibson's brand, so a similarly light touch would not be out of order when inviting an infringer to refocus their energies.  Of course, I don't know what Gibson's counsel said to the truss rod cover guy - maybe they DID ask nicely.  Maybe I'm guilty of reflexively lashing out at Gibson as an institution.  But even if I'm wrong here, I do know the Big G is worthy of my scorn on other points.
