Thanks Cagey - that's very helpful having those measurements and a couple of photos to illustrate one way of doing it. :icon_thumright:
I like the idea of using the standard four bolt holes for convenience of alignment. My plan is to use some recessed ones as per pic attached.

With regards wood, I'm wanting a really dense, tight grain dark coloured wood [like Koa, Pau Ferro, Bubinga, Rosewood], hence Pau Ferro - bonus being it can look pretty with grain pattern [as long as it straight on the neck as I'm a bit fickle about weird wandering grains]. I'm also wanting to keep it raw if I can, for that 'feel'...
