Yep, I've started yet another Stupid Question thread! I apologize! (I swear I use the Search, I really do!)

what do you use or recommend?

when  It comes to hard cases for Oddly shaped Electric Guitars?

Road Runner or SKB universal bass cases usually do the trick. Coffin cases have alot of options too.

Well if it's an Iceman, have you ever thought it just might fit in a Ibanez case..... :dontknow:

o.o ... like the title of the thread says... Lefty...

though, as a poster WITHIN the thread says... put it in backwards! XD

There's always these people, ask Mayfly about them. Not exactly cheap though  :tard:

Yep Calton will make you a left handed flight case.  Mine is the strongest case I've ever seen.

It's also very expensive.  Worth it if you travel, not so much if you don't.

Considered a gig bag?

I had a bag for my last Guitar... did NOTHING to protect the thing,

and Whether or not I go deluxe or basic with this thing... I'd like to not be surprised with a chipped headstock when I open my bag.

You could buy a standard box-style flight case, then have the interior customized. That's what I would do. Takes away the major cost of building the case. In fact, if you want to go that route, I'd be happy to help out. I can't imagine it getting any pricier than about $350.

There was actually an article about this in the StewMac newsletter a while back. Actually, it was about upgrading an old vintage case, possibly with expanding foam insulation (but I might be making that last part up). I'm at work right now, so I can't really go looking to find a link for you (one could argue that I shouldn't be browsing guitar-building forums at work either...), but it might be worth looking in to.

I'm a woodworker from way back with an extensive shop of tools and I have some upholstery experience, as well as a good amount of amp and speaker covering experience, so I think I could pull it off quite nicely. I've also been playing guitar for 35+ years, and have gone through more than my fair share of guitars and cases, so I know what there is to love/hate about them. Not that I wouldn't like to read what someone else has to say about doing such a thing. Every project is different, and has different considerations. The only reason I haven't done a custom case so far is I've always either lived with what came with an instrument or bought something better, which has been easy since I'm something of a right-handed traditionalist so I've never needed a custom case. Right-handed Strat and Les Paul/SG-style guitars are fairly common.

I believe.. paul gilbert's new customer whatever is a reversed iceman.. I could be very wrong.. but if it is.. that would probably maybe work..  :dontknow:

This one will work left or right handed...

1 post and it's spam. Targeted spam, but spam none the less. Perhaps for this thread we might can interest you in a more roomy case.

I've often pondered this one...in the future I may do an unusually shaped guitar. I was planning on buying a used case, stripping it out, glueing in foam cut to fit and covering it with some felt or "inside-a-guitar-case-type-fabric". Doesn't seem like it would be that hard and maybe even a fun project. You could really use your imagination and get crazy with the inside too. Remember the inside of your locker in Highschool?...Could be scary too. :laughing7:

There's an article on doing just that in StewMac's Trade Secrets newsletter: http://www.stewmac.com/tradesecrets/ts0084_litecase.hzml.
