Yes, disabling the amp sims when using another pre and power amp is a good idea in general.
The modulation effects will run well in the loop as that is the best place generally for them but the overdrives not so much as they are better into the front of the amp.
Try running it direct into the guitar input with amp sims disabled to see if the overdrives work better there. The modulation may also be passable. Back in the day you had to do it this way as few amps had effects loops.
Another thing to try is plug the guitar into the ME80 and the output into the FX return of the amp with ME80 amp sims on. That way the preamp of the amp itself is bypassed and you are just using its power amp and speakers to make the tones generated by the ME80 louder. (Preamp type sims generally are better in this scenario than full amp sims.
