cool maple necks in the showcase

There's a couple of these "dark" maple necks in the showcase, and they look pretty nice. Still unfinished. I haven't seen such dark maple before. Beauties, eh? Anybody know what might cause the whole plank to be darker?

If these were one-piece all maple necks, I'd snap it up faster than a...

That's wild. NEVER seen maple figuring that dark naturally; tempted to buy the cheap one and stash it for a future project....
