haha i love steve vai. and now i want a jem! almost tried building one, but there are so many aftermarket bodies and so few places to find necks. it turned out to be more trouble than it's worth. i wanted a custom neck, but found very few places that offered real "custom" ibanez-style necks.

I like how he "designed the guitar to have no finish."

those rules make it more like a finger painting contest,

"traditional guitar building materials work best"
cant modify the "lions claw," "mokey grip," "pickguard," body shape, or headstock shape.

so basically you take a jem, chose x wood and come up with a fancy paint scheme as if he doesn't have enough varients of that already.

if i do an entry i will stretch those rules a bit but it is just for fun anyway, i have no expectation of it going anywhere, ive never won any contest.

Whoa! That guitar is awesome.

I also quite like this finalist, though I wouldn't play a purple guitar personally.

I also love this one, though I'm a bit confused at why there are no magnetic pickups or controls or pickguard? I thought the pickguard was a requirement?

i really like the winning one too! kind of looks like an unfair contest (person with best photoshop skills wins) but i guess that was the idea. and they definitely ended up with one badass looking instrument because of it.

i'll be really interested to see how well that lends to a real paint job, but i think ibanez's artists will do it justice. it IS for vai, afterall.
