Control Pots

Since I never turn my tone pots off of 10, can I just wire them as volume pots instead? That way I can dial in just the right blend. I have a Strat plus w/ 2 tone and a master volume, that never leave the 10 setting. Please advise,
Arley

Yes, you can. But, you should be aware that in some switch positions you'll have two volume pots in parallel, so you may get unexpected results. For instance, on a typical 5-way blade switch, the 2 position blends the bridge and middle pickup. If either one of the volumes for one of those pickups is all way down, you'll get no output even if the other volume is all the way up. Of course, that goes for all points in between. Same thing will happen at position 4 where you're blending the middle and neck pickups.

The cleaner way to go if you never use the tone controls is to simply get rid of them. You remove some load from the pickup, which improves its character/tone, and you simplify the instrument. There's only one knob you ever have to deal with.

A diagram to do that would look something like this, although your pickups are probably different.

Well, it means you need another pickguard, but they're relatively inexpensive. On the plus side, your guitar gets a lot simpler, which is always a Good Thing. You don't want to fight with your instrument or think too much about it while you're trying to play.

Agreed. That was my first thought when I saw the diagram. I could use a different style and color pickguard anyway.
Thanks again
