I'm putting the final coats of lacquer on my guitar and I had to fly back to Texas and couldn't bring my last cans with me or mail them... What are some brands that I can use over the Cabot that will work?
Most conventional nitrocellulose lacquers are compatible with each other but the manufacture will never tell you that. If there is a product failure and you have two different companies involved they will get into a finger-pointing contest and you are stuck. In fact most will not stand behind a failure if you do not use their solvents.
That said things can get funny if you have different kinds of lacquers like pre-cat, or conversion varnish, etc. The only way to be really sure is to do a test.
Most NITROCELLULOSE lacquers are ok with each other - keep in mind that some will dry to a harder finish, have more gloss, or less..... all have different additives that reduce fisheye, or help flowout... retard drying... resist UV.... you name it, so, when you mix them, you're going to perhaps get some funky aging. But that could be part of the mojo.
Dont mix acrylic lacquer with nitro lacquer, and vice versa.
You can get Cabot in a lot of places... why not just look for some?
Ive been finding cabot retailers all over but none of them carry the lacquer.. I have found online dealers that charge alot for shipping and handling because of the danger involved with shipping I guess i will just have to go with them
