Clearcoat on a guitar. Any Ideas/Experience?

Hey Guys,

You have all been incredibly helpful so far so I'm turning to you again. A local artist is painting my Strat body with acrylic paint and I was recommended by a Luthier around town to take the body to an auto body shop to have a clear coat sprayed on it. However, a few of the shops around town said they won't do it because of liability concerns. This has made me nervous. Has anyone had anything like this done before? Gregg, do you know if Warmoth would be able to apply a clear gloss on Acrylic for me if I shipped it to you guys? Is there a good DIY alternative that actually comes out looking professional?

I have painted many guitars with automotive clear.

Use a good urathane clear by PPG or Dupont.

Do you ever spray it on top of Acrylic paint, or should it not make a difference?

It should work fine but I would test it first.
