What do you think about this guitar (made in Japain)?
I find it fantastic value for quality/price.
Specs:
- 1 piece q-sawn hard-rock maple neck (oil finish),
- jumbo frets (6100 dunlop I think),
- compound radius (12-16 "),
- 3 piece american alder body, poly finish,
- Seymour Duncan combo pups: '59 neck and JB bridge,
- Grover tuners,
- no-recessed Floyd Rose ® FRT-O2000 double-locking
- SKB Hard Case
- Dunlop strap lock system

Really a wonderful guitar, a rock machine ('80s came back).
I have only two questions, otherwise I would have purchased ( 620euro IT best price):

I) about Floyd Rose ® FRT-O2000*
On Charvel website in Guitar specifications: *Floyd Rose ® FRT-O2000 double-locking * 2-Point Tremolo. FRT-O2000. I find about it: made in Korea, saddles and tremolo block in zinc...

II) about Seymour Duncan pups - '59 neck and JB - you know if 2 or 4 cables pups?
I know that JB is always 4-wire but '59 can also be just two wires.

We really need pics or an actual model number/name for an accurate opinion one way or another.

I myself am leery about any 'licensed' FR clone. For me its an OFR, Schaller, or bust. That being said, you could
always upgrade after the purchase.

YMMV.

Of course, if I buy it immediately after my purchase would be amazing FR licensed Gotoh ge1996
i've not s/n or test-review etc.
Simply because I've not this guitar :p

I LOVE Charvel's (owned two) and Jackson's (one atm), and I think you really can't go wrong.... That being said:

Custom Warmoth strat body (w/ 720 mod + contoured heel) matching the San Dimas Style 1 HH in Daphne Blue: 480.00
Custom Warmoth strat pro neck (w/ SS6100 frets, R3 Floyd shelf and holes) matching the San Dimas Style 1 HH: 297.00
                                                                                                                                                                                $777.00

Internet searched retail cost of a Charvel San Dimas Style 1 HH: $800-850.00

Granted you're still on the hook for the bridge, tuners, and pickups... I'm just sayin'.  :icon_thumright:

Tuners, a Floyd (a good one), and pups could easily go to 300-400 bucks.  I'm as pro-Warmoth as the next guy, but it's not a savings if the Charvel actually has what you want.

My dear, change dollar/euro is negative (for us) now, and more... UPS shipping costs (90$) + import duties (4%) + VAT (21%), who pays?  :redflag:

For charvel pro mod  I need 600euro, for wamoth-charvel...  1000EURO(and I want to be optimistic...)

I have already thought and unfortunately, discarded soon

I've played a couiple of the San Dimas Charvels. Very nice quality and construction. I've been a big fan of Charvels for a long time too and just don't think you can go wrong with one. I've got an '86 Model 2 that is still in great shape and is the one guitar I wouldn't even think of getting rid of.

That said, with the new San Dimas Strats, you can only pull the Floyd up about 1/2 step, maybe a little less on the high E. I did like the DiMarzios though. Had a full and bright sound to them. The necks are smooth and fast with the oil finish.

I was pretty impressed, and for the money thought about buying one instead of my next W. If they offered a sunburst, or a white and tortoise shell option, I'd definitely consider it.

Non-recessed Floyd only goes down, right? To have a whammy and not float it seems odd to me.

Your opinion, however, don't say this to Eddy Van Halen  :icon_biggrin:

The FR is raised for both way action (neck is slightly angled, Warmoth offer that option).
I LOVE that setup because it makes it easier to palm-mute (if you're used to TOM type bridge, it's very similar).

Indeed, you could build one out of Warmoth parts, but the body and neck are just part of the expense, once you add the bridge, the pickups, the tuners, etc, you're over. Not to mention the Charvel comes with a hard-case.
Also, IIRC, it's got a quarter-sawn neck which is not finished. It really is an incredible guitar for the price.

That said, I'm building one myself right now, cause I wanted a natural finish Mahogany body and a neck single coil. Charvel does make them... for 2000$. Mine will have a blade switch and tone knobs though :D

Guys, no one can tell me if the pups installed ('59 neck, JB bridge trembucker) are 4-wire?

I know I know.
What that I don't know is if the '59 installed in Charvel pro mod san dimas is 2 or 4 wire!!! This's my question :dontknow:

I'm with ya on this.  I couldn't, in good conscience, ever own a guitar with a non-floating tremolo.  In fact, I don't think I'll ever own another guitar without a Floyd.  What can I say, I love tremolos.  :party07:

Once again, it goes both way: the neck pocket is slightly angled. I much prefer this cause I can dig in for palm mutes more easily (like a non-recessed TOM)

I've actually been really tempted to buy a Charvel lately.

Does anyone know if Warmoth does a paint job similar to Charvel's Pagan Gold? I just love that color.

Charvel's Wild Card #7 Primer Scream model has all the features I like (SxH pickups, recessed Floyd, Ebony fretboard), but I just cannot get past that awful primer grey paint job and the horrid yellow inlays. If only they made a guitar like that in Pagan Gold!

This is what bugs me about a lot of Charvels, what good is a Floyd if it's not floating? I guess you can set it up to partially float, but a recessed trem is always better.

Lol, I guess nobody reads my posts  :icon_biggrin:
I clarified that point twice already, last time just 2 messages above.

Ok, so the Pagan Gold proved too great a temptation for me, and I pulled the trigger on this one. :blob7:

The mods don't bother me, and the chipped trem arm mounting thread can be fixed easily.
Can't wait to see/play it when it gets here. :blob7:
