Channel bound fingerboards

Don't like binding!?! Phbbt. I know it's a vestigial or cosmetic thing these days, but sometimes you gotta have it, like if you want to carry on a theme.

You guys just wait'll you see the neck I'm gonna put on my L5S. It'll be cream bound to match the body binding, and I'm installing the frets rather than let Warmoth do it. Not that they don't do a good job - it's superlative. I've seen it. But, I want to be able to burnish the 'board before the frets get installed, and they don't offer that service.

It's gonna be a Canary/Canary part w/ a Warmoth2 headstock, Pro conversion, with a unique choice fretboard and no inlays. I'm going to use gold fretwire sized like Warmoth's GD6100, but LMII calls it FWG110 (.110 x .057) so they're pretty meaty little rascals. Unless they're really bored around there right now, it'll probably be another month before I see it, and since it's custom there are no pictures to show yet. Just gotta keep telling myself... patience.

To hell with patience! Where's my beer?

Kind of indifferent to it now.  Was against it initially.  Alternative building methods and materials are nothing new.  Read some of Stubhead's posts pertaining to it.  It's why we have Steinberger, Parker, and Aluminum bodies. Maybe a 1/16th of an inch fretboard is the price to pay to get birds back to China.  Those Japanese do love their houses framed in rosewood.  Right, Stubby?  At least it's wood, I mean, at least it looks like wood.

Irony of ironies, one can now have a deep scallop with binding.  Oh wait, the fretboard won't let you.  Wait til the tone chasers tell me what to think about how it sounds.
