So I have a cat that likes to chew on things.  We took to the vet once to see if had some sort of dental problem, but it turned out he's just a jerk.  The only guitar related thing he chews on is roasted maple necks.  I have three guitars with those, and if I make the mistake of leaving one unattended, he will chew on it.

I wonder why it’s just roasted maple?  Probably the sugars in the wood.

Our new pup started chewing on the corner of a window sill. I soaked the area with Tapatio hot sauce and that stopped the problem. Is there anything you can put on the neck that won't trash it but that will make the neck less tasty to the cat? Maybe a little of that Indoor No stuff? Or maybe rub a bit of satin wipe-on poly on just the headstock to seal the flavor in (and the cat out)?

He must love the smell of maple?  I don't plan on doing anything to the guitars since I've been conditioned well enough now that I never leave them alone with the orange terror.  I also have to refrain from putting them on a certain stand that is close to a dresser.  One time I caught him on top of the dresser with his neck stretched out chewing on a headstock.  He's devious.

I like cats, but it's this kind of thing along with the myriad tiny pieces and parts and tools I have laying around that say no to any kind of pets/kids. I'd never find anything ever again. I have a tough enough time with just me  :laughing7:

Considering how much this new roasted maple neck smells like a stack of pancakes I'm not surprised by this. It's like a Canadian exploded in here.
