Capacitor/Pot value when mixing pickup types?

Hey all,

I'm going to be making a switchback with a SD '54 Tele bridge pickup and a '59 humbucker in the neck. However, I only want a master volume/master tone. What should I do as far as the values of the pots and capacitors to ensure that the guitar still sounds balanced?

Welcome to the forum, jwtcmu9316! Can we maybe just call you...J?  :laughing7:

To run a single coil and humbucker together on a master volume/master tone guitar, I use 500k pots and run a 470k resistor from the single coil's lug on the pickup selector switch to ground. When the neck pickup is selected it just sees the 500k pots, and when the bridge pickup is selected the resistor comes into play in parallel with the volume pot to show the pickup a load of about 250k (242.27k to be exact). Works great! I personally like a 0.022uF tone cap in this configuration, but that is just a matter of personal preference.
