Never heard of them but they look nice. I'm sure it has the problems that plague every low price kit. Loose neck pocket, thing veneer top that is easy to sand through, loose bridge post holes etc. They always just need a little TLC, then they are great :icon_thumright:

uh, you realize that is a semi-hollow, not a hollow-body, correct? FWIW, you can get any number of W bodies in carved top semi-hollow, with double f-holes, no less.  :icon_thumright:

Yeah...this is just to hold me off and practice some new skills.  I would like to add a piezo style wrap around bridge.  I am looking to see who make that type.  I know PRS uses one.

+1
That's not really an archtop.

Pretty similar to a Warmoth hollow VIP with double f-holes. I like the position of the f-holes more toward the bottom of the body than the VIP and the price is nice.

I think I saw a 335-type kit guitar from BYOG on ebay at some point. It was one of those that includes all the hardware for $200, so I don't know about the quality.

Here's a set neck kit that has tempted me:

Someone on here a while back had one they were working on, but it didn't have the F holes...I don't remember who though... :dontknow:

You can get the exact same kit from BYOguitar for $100 less than where you were looking.  And I bet they are the same kits.

BTW there is absolutely nothing wrong with these kits at all.  No less work than an unfinished Turtle body and neck..... Plus the BYO kits have proper set neck construction, unlike Warmoth which only offers Fender style bolt on necks.  These kits are a good buy and in the right hands will finish out to be something way more impressive than a bolt together Warmoth.

I see this thread getting ugly from here on out.

And while I do agree that these are nice kits capable of making a nice guitar. I wouldn't go that far.

You've clearly never built a Warmoth, or seen one in the flesh. If you must have a set neck, then do what you must, but otherwise Warmoth parts are peerless.

I purchased an unfinished Warmoth body and neck.  You have got to be kidding me about thinking they are the same quality.  Look at the additional pictures section of that link.  That is some really rough work, with obviously inferior quality wood.  The PRS imitation kit is even worse.  The recessed controls look horrible.  Burn in from tools and they are lopsided.  Ugh.

I'm not sure how I could be any more clear. What part don't you understand?

+1, 2, and 3 just because. we're a pretty open minded forum, but we are a warmoth forum. not a build-your-own-sketchy-guitar kit forum. the warmoths i've put together have steamrolled pretty much everything else i've ever gotten a chance to play, not just owned. i don't doubt the build-your-own-sketchy-guitar kits can turn out well if the builder knows exactly what they're doing. but even an experienced builder can't make it into something it's not, like a real les paul.
