It's not my musical tastes at all so maybe that's the problem, but what is so impressive about a guy who killed one of his peers, burned churches, got out of jail because he can't be held for longer than 15 years for anything (insane anyone?), and basically says he has no regret or remorse for anything he did?  I'm almost offended that Guitar World even interviewed the guy.

I don't know, the guy thinks he's a genius or something. He writes all kind of philosophical non sense on his website...

Black metal is for kids :binkybaby:

And I can tell you with an utmost certainty that that fellow practices nothing of the sort of actual philosophy.
He comes off, to me, as some wannabe viking. Do people of this sort really believe that ancient Europeans would dig their rumpus ruckus?
You can tell from his interpetation of 'Belus' that he does not know the forgotten language.
Boy would I love to outplay a schmuck like that  :icon_thumright:

p.s Vikings are descended from the Jewish tribe of Dan

yes
you're right, and most black metalars(new word) have little guitar playing skil besides tremolo picking

Friends don't let friends join black metal bands.  It's only a matter of time before you're either killing people or start looking like this douche:

I'm a fan of early Black Metal, or at least the bands that are the roots of Black Metal, like NME, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Samael, Sarcofago, early Sepultura, and, of course, Venom.  Much of the genre eventually turned into a parody of itself with the musical equivalent of an unbalanced washing machine.

I find Varg to be a complete joke.  He's self important, arrogant, racist, and not really that good.  His music in less than inspiring.

You forgot the whole nazi thing... I hate that guy...

I'm not a fan of Burzum or his music but the church (christians, islamists, hindu and various other religious groups) are responsible for millions of deaths (burning, hanging, decapitation etc). I'm not sorry at all for the churches.

That makes it right to burn old wooden medieval churches??? I am really fascinated by old architecture, and think it is horrible when places like these are destroyed, whether it is a church, mosque, pagan or satan worshippers places..

also, different kinds of people have always been violent towards others in the past, of all kinds religions, pagans, heathens... I guess mostly the underlying reason was not religion, but probably power or land..

You have a point. I don't mind churches as buildings but most churches are been used for religion, not as museums or examples of architecture.

Fantoft stave church, built in 1150 !! (or around that time)

I'm so against every religion that honestly if that's what it takes I support it. Unfortunately religion means power, hatred, racism, sexism, money and not love like they preach. People should think and act more instead of letting priests manipulating them.

I am not a big fan of organized religions, but that doesn't mean that I think all religious people (now or in the past) are evil..

and while we are talking about Scandinavia, the vikings murdered and robbed a lot of people, and as far as I know, they did not have a religious motive (norwegian guy, swedish guy (karl) correct me if I am wrong)
but still, that doesn't mean that all Scandinavian people are still evil, and their heritage/artifacts should be destroyed ?

No, there are probably exceptions to the rule. But when they become powerful, they become evil. It's what people usually do. They want more power and more money. This only brings deaths. Look at the crusades and the holy wars. The burning of the witches, the burning of books. The censorship of free speech, music and books. Their rage against sexuality. The list goes on and on. They want to rule our lives and they want our money.

I am not the best person to defend religions/Christianity, others are probably better at that..  I think a lot of people in power are or were evil, regardless of religion (Napoleon? Stalin? Roman Empire? Lots of popes?) still if they were religious, it was not the cause, just an excuse.

the point I was trying to make, if you approve of burning churches, that makes you just as bad as those evil Christians.

I always have a healthy laugh at people who try to act like the evils that human beings do to one another is somehow only tied to religion.  We will use any excuse possible to dehumanize, use and generally mistreat one another, from political philosophy to race to religion to sex to sexual preferences to style of music... etc.

I call this sort of discussion a "shortcut to thinking."

Has anyone seen the South Park 2-part episode where Cartman goes 500 years into the future and atheists have taken over the world?  They are in the middle of a huge war based on what they should call themselves (United Atheists League, United Atheist Alliance, or Allied Atheist Alliance).  The three factions all think that the other people have flawed logic on coming up with their names, so they kill each other.

Later on in the episode, Cartman changes the past so that there are no more "isms" in the future, and therefore no more atheists.  One guy says "We have learned that isms are fine for rational people, but in the hands of irrational people, they just cause violence," to which Cartman replies "So there's no more war?", to which they reply "Of course there's a war!  The stupid French Chinese think they have a right to Hawaii!".

People will always find reasons to be violent.  It is programmed into our brains, and it's there to ensure that the population doesn't get out of hand.

Btw, if you want to watch those episodes, you can here: http://www.southparkstudios.com/episodes/103800  http://www.southparkstudios.com/episodes/103801
Seriously, they are awesome.  You will laugh.

If we are going to start bitching about religon (against forum rules btw)
Stalin killed 30 million people, he was an atheist. Crusaders weren't true christians, suicide bombers are defintely not true muslims, and hinduism is a religon based on peace soooo...
