after installing my humbucker pickup rings on my iceman build, i notice there is a seriously large gap between between gibson style bridges and the bridge pickups on these Warmoth guitars.  has anyone else noticed?  i'm already anticipating a woofy sounding guitar when i get the electronics installed.  why did warmoth decide to leave such a large space relative to the traditional les paul design?

This has been covered before....

It has to do with the placement of the humbucker in Telecasters.  When you use the hb-Telecaster bridge, the pickup goes in a certain location.  They used that location on everything with a humbucker, regardless of the bridge or body type.

Tell ya what though... its not too bad having the pickup there.  You lose some shrillness that can happen on bridge pickups, and you gain a little more volume, making "both" together easier to balance with each other.  Its a happy compromise really.

i see.  that makes sense.  thanks.  i tried searching but couldn't find a thread on this.  sorry for the repeat.  any opinions on a pickup that helps compensate for this?  i'm assuming something vintage wound.  so far, the strongest highs and lack of muddy low-mids in HB's i've come across are the SD Antiquities, but i haven't tried any boutique HBs.  i have a SD JB bridge that i took out of a friend's guitar, but i'm already worried it's going to be too hot.

Burstbucker Pro #2 is an excellent candidate - very crisp, solid.

They seem to be a more well balanced tone ( than most HB I've owned ) or more full range ... nice highs ... even direct to console, or mic pre without an amp, they produce a usable sound for me.
I've been watching eBay to pickup an other set to keep for my next build.
