Bohemian Rhapsody

Explosions are good. I'll take some explosions. Michael Bay is a bit of a hero in that respect.

Speaking of gratuitous smashing around and whatnot, I was surprised to learn that the scene in Terminator 3 where the hot blonde Terminator is racing a big ol' heavy-duty construction crane along a 3-4 lane roadway while the Arnie Terminator is hanging off the back of the boom getting smashed into anything taller than about 2', that whole set is not the miracle of CGI. It's built for that scene. I mean, car dealerships, multi-story office buildings (most of which had gratuitous amounts of glass and brick curtainwall facades), the whole shebang was built specifically for that 2-3 minutes of banging the snot out of him. I remember when I saw it the first time I thought "man, that's gonna cost a pile to repair!" But, no. It was going to cost a pile to bulldoze and remove, after having cost several piles to build in the first place. No wonder those movies cost 300 bajillion dollars to film.

When they first came out I found them to be overly flamboyant and theatrical, but when I heard Fat Bottom Girls, I became a fan. It combined that country / punk / rock music of the people ethos, and went over the top (that was 1978!).  Get on your bikes and ride!  Make that rockin' world go round ... and God Bless those Girls who took that skinny 18 year-old musician home.  (I hope that's not sexist, if it is let me know and I'll delete.  Also, I never saw this as a dark song, with a deep inner meaning, I always viewed it as sort of happy).

Genius.
