This is a tracing of my Jazzmaster normal and reversed.

In the far future, I'd like to rout my own body design, like the rounder-cornered shape in mind. I'm wondering what you people's input would be about which overlapping lines to keep/lose. I actually like both double cut horns shapes; maybe I've got two designs to finalize.

Boy, staring at that will mess with your head! I rather like the "both horns" outline, with a symmetrical waist about where the two waists converge.

I found the answer! Double the shallow JM horn and add the bottom of an SG!

If you're talking about the shape on the left, I like it, but it'll almost certainly have neck dive problems. The upper horn where you'd attach the strap hanger is almost behind the neck heel, which means it's even farther back than on an SG. Center of gravity will be forward of the hanger.

Of course, you could make the body heavier somehow to compensate. Denser wood, or a thicker piece along the lines of a Tele.

Something to think about, anyway.

Or you could mount the strap button at the top of the pocket, instead of on the horn.  Won't fully solve the neck dive issue, but it will diminish it somewhat.

Or omit the upper strap button altogether and go oldschool

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize you were looking for comments on a symmetrical JM build...

Personally, I like the trad JM body. If I wanted an inverted offset design I'd be looking into a Mosrite.

Lots of scratch JM and other offset builds on the Offset Guitar forum. Worth the exploration.

I would locate the pocket as far back as possible, bring the bridge much closer to the butt than on an SG.

And I'm very pro-JM. My new Warmoth was the template!
