I never really got into the Dead, but my wife (then GF) took me to see them at one of the last shows with Jerry Garcia at the then Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands, NJ in the early-mid 90's, and ....it was an experience. Since then, I've seen some of the offshoots since Jerry's death. Their fan base is like no other.
I slowly got more into their music, and came to appreciate them. I saw a documentary on them, might have Bob Weir specific, where they mention how BW was the best # 2 guitar player in a band. It took a bit to process that, and have to give kudos to BW. As someone said in the documentary, if you're playing behind the legendary JG, what do you do, and BW was known to have evolved great voicing of chords and what not.
R.I.P. Bob Weir....thanks for the tunes, and being one of the plank owners of the Grateful Dead
