So... I ordered a Blackstar HT5 head, My Wife and I live in an apartment, and I decided to build a small recording room in our spare bedroom's walk-in-closet. The closet is freakin' huge, and it has come along nicely! One of my buddies owns a recording studio in town, so that is normally where I record, but I thought instead of just storing junk in the closet, why not put it good use for messing around at home! My friend hooked me up with a ton of soundproofing stuuf from his studio's storage, I have a bunch of the boards, and a ton of foam, and a few foam bass-traps as well, should be fun!
ANYWAY, all that to say, I wanted a sweet small-wattage amp for use in their, should be killer.

I got my Blackstar HT5 today, HOLY-FREAKIN AWESOMENESS!!!! All I can say is wow. I had an Orange Tinyterror before, but sold it, because it just wasn't what I was looking for, a cool amp though. Anyway, the HT5 head is simply amazing! It came complete with a sweet little footswitch, AND a speaker cable (as well as power cable) and boy oh boy does it sound killer through my 4x12! It is for sure going to be awesome for recording, I dimed the gain, and it is still quiet as a mouse! The ISF (infinite-shape-control) knob really is cool, it does the american/british tones very well. I'll try to post some soundclips soon, super cool amp, for $200 US, it's a must-have for studio and home use!

Yeah, a good recording/home practice amp would be killer. This one keeps looking better! Looking forward to the sound (video?) clips.

Speaking of huge closets.  I used to rent this place, and the closet was almost as big as the bedroom.  I kept my bed and dresser in there and still had room to hang up clothes and walk around in it.  Company was confused because it looked like I had no bed.  Making the bed was easy though, just shut the door.

I just found out the store closest to me sells this amp.........and I just got sme money in my bank account............and i'm in need of a better practice amp. Hmmm........

No, not yet. But it IS settled. I am going to buy it. I have the money and I get discounts at the store where i'm gonna buy it.  :toothy11: ( many wasted afternoons just oogoling at the various pedals, guitars, amps, basses and drums. )

I am really considering one of these too.  Local store...ahem...GC...has it for $599 with a cab.

I am a little new with these amps.  having only gigged with my 40 watt fender hot rod.  Is 5 watts enough to play a small club or power a 4x12?

I have also been looking at the Series One 45 combo but cannot see to find it in the states.

Thanks

Not wasted hours, no, no, no...  Invested time in procuring a discounted rate.  The thing sounds good from what I have heard.

And, yes Dmraco, 5 watts is surprisingly loud and has no problems powering a 4 X 12.  I built one two and a half years ago and it has more than enough to get the cops called on my at about 50%.

IMO the Vox Night Train sounds better than the HT-5

I just got back from playing a Night Train.  It does rock but does not clean up as well.  You have to turn the gain almost off and the volume 2/3 up to get any volume when playing clean and it still breaks up a little.  If you are looking for a one channel amp...it is a great coice.

What about the Krank Jrs pros with 20W?  Any experience here?

IMO, the clean sucked, no headroom at all. I actually sold the HT5, I'm gonna mod the Blackheart Killer ant head that Tfarny is sending me.

the overdrive on the HT5 is pretty kickass, it just didn't have the bottom end from such low wattage. it was awesome though.

I had the mini stack when they first came out. i would say that the cleans are not as good as the dist. tones but are decent and very warm and tubey. I liked the build quality and tone, and it has a ton of low end for a five watter. i guess the circuit is virtually the same as one of there dist. pedals and tweaked very slightly to make it into an amp.

hey lads,
i got the ht-5 combo around 6 months ago. i really really dug it first, but found a few things... annoying.
first and foremost, i bought it hoping it would be loud enough to get over a drummer. nope. comes close, but just.... nope. not loud enough. i don't have a 4x12, and the idea of the combo was to have it portable for practice. it also seems a bit dark (?), even with a few different guitars. weird.
don't get me wrong, i still dig it, and i like the natural feel of the clean channel, esp with my warmoth tele, wenge neck, on the phat cat neck pup. lack of reverb is a little poo.

BUT

yes, i tried the amp before i got it, so i knew it had no reverb, and knew it was on the darkish side and was only 5 watts. so i'm not dissing the amp, just saying that in time i realised it's not quite for me. in fact, i have very little use for an amp that i cant actually gig with. my orange rockerverb 50 sounds fine at bedroom levels, and i find my ht5 is gathering dust. again, not dissing the amp itself, it just has limited use for me personally. i'm thinking of trading it for a night train or tiny terror to run with my orange. any thoughts? i was thinking the night train simply as a "different" sound to the orange.

that said, it is a kickass amp for the right person. don't expect it to ACTUALLY sound like a completely dimed fired up marshall or mesa stack. volume of sound DOES actually affect the way our ears receive it. however it does sound very good, both clean and dirty.
