Black VIP

I got my new-to-me VIP body a little bit, but since it's living in this shipping box until I get the other parts, it's still "Just Out of the Box!"

Chambered Mahogany, Maple cap.
Gloss black
OFR route.

I'm going to order a Warmoth neck after xmas; it will be something that doesn't need a finish with an ebony markerless board. (probably)
EMG 81/85 & OFR
Chrome hardware.

Nothing photographs quite as poorly as gloss black.

I didn't see Pau Ferro as an option in the builder. Either it's not a tilt-back style, or it's a call-in option.

Goncalo Alves isn't an option in the builder for Warmoth headstock necks either, but I've seen several in the The Showcase recently. Be worth it to call because as Updown says, Ebony over Pau Ferro is pure sex.

Or, you could do what I was gonna do with that body - get an Ebony over Maple neck and have the Maple painted gloss black to match the body. Save some money on the wood, which you spend on the finish, but it would be a bright neck to counteract the Mahogany body with humbuckers. Be nice and articulate while still having some balls and sustain, and it would look excellent. Black or chrome hardware... Mmmm...

Pau Ferro and some other exotics are not offered as tiltbacks as they do not glue well at the scarf joint.

I've been messing around with the Montag guitar builders. I tried white/cream rings and it didn't look right to me. If I go with open coiled zebra pups it might be an option.

I think I've got the closest mockup to what will become of this build.
Neck is currently "In Progress" in Puyallup.
I'm going with a chrome Floyd, EMG X's, tuning machines
Black pup rings, and wenge/bloodwood w/black dots on a Warmoth headstock.

I look forward to updating this in a few weeks (or months depending on their workload)
