Black Friday Sales

Okay, so who's fallen for the "Black Friday Scheme" of standing in lines for hours before stores have opened just to catch a lame sale?

Nothin' against anyone who does their shopping on Black Friday, but I think the whole thing is absolutely stupid.  Sure, while there are certainly deals to be had, are those deals worth more than your time, gas, wear and tear on your vehicle, and patience?

For years, I've done all my shopping online.  This year, I plan to do the same.  It's convenient, and super-easy.  All I need to do is go to Amazon.com, search for a product, and BAM!, 20 different vendors' names come up.  Not to mention, a lot of them even offer free shipping.

I just can't understand why anyone "wants" to stand in big lines and deal with the entire hassle.  :icon_scratch:

Black friday rocks!! Gets the wife out of bed before 10, and out of the house on my day off. Me and the cat will chill out and work on projects.

That's awesome...if you can dupe the wife into leaving.  :icon_biggrin:

Maybe a pair of magic eyeglasses would be cheaper though, now that I think about it.

Perzactly. That's me. If the only thing I can think of for somebody is a gift card or money, then they don't get anything. I don't know them well enough to be giving them gifts. But, for those I'm close to, I know what they need/want and can find it online. It's cheap and easy, and UPS does all the driving. If I never have to see another clueless 18 year old at Blast Buy or Bloodbath and Beyond or fight traffic and parking, I won't miss it for a millisecond. Black Friday? Not at all. I stay home and laugh at the entire idea.

But, some people get a kick out of it. I know several. I make fun of them right to their face, but they don't care. They look forward to doing it almost as much as losing their virginity. Personally, I'd rather take a beating.

Not that we in Australia have Black Friday sales, But I know what that would be like. One large headache  :sad1:
We have huge after Xmas / New year sales.

Me, having been working in the service industry (Butcher) for most of my life.
I try my very very hardest to avoid shopping in stores, especially at Sales & Xmas time ...... I just hate it !!

Rather sit back with a stiff scotch in one hand & press a few buttons on the keyboard & have things delivered  :icon_thumright:
Gee  :icon_scratch: I must be getting old  :icon_biggrin:

I've felt like that all my life! I just don't like crowds or noise.

...so obviously I love playing rock music, but hey! What is life but a series of contradictions? :)

You and me, both. The closest I get to being violent, or at least unacceptably anti-social, is when I have to deal with crowds/noise. Can't stand it.

But, I like rock, too. What's up with that?

The last few years I've literally ordered the full christmas on Amazon, in one afternoon, had it wrapped and delivered. It's an amazing convenience if you think about it - gives me lots more time to drool over the W rss feed.

I went out for small business Saturday.  Jim's Music Center... no crowds, got 2 for 1 on strings and $20 off a nice uke.

not a true black friday sale, but I made a great deal at a pawn shop on black friday...
negotiated a 500 $ guitar that I really wanted (for a while) down to $245!!
:hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

I decided to skip McGuitarcenter and went to a small music shop:
paid $8.95 for a set of strings that usually cost me $3.95, and  $9.95 for a set of SC pickup covers that cost 6 dollars at allparts.com

My wife, mother-in-law, and other female members of her family (whom I refer to as the "Menopause Mafia") go bananas over these doorbuster deals. Three years ago, my wife was just about to give birth to my daughter Gabby, and was squashed in at the 5 AM doorbuster at Walmart when we lived in Green Bay. This year, she decided to do it again with her mother, and hit the midnight busters. The funny thing was she did the buster at Walmart and at a regional store called ShopKo, came home, and as she was stepping out of her mom's minivan, she felt her water break.

Few people realize that you can get decent deals without standing with the huddled mass at midnight. My little brother snagged a great deal on a new Vizio LED TV for his living room. Sadly, an hour into running it, the power supply failed, but Walmart was very good when it came to an exchange. Now, its up to me to build him a media PC for his entertainment system. The coolest thing about doing this is that he wants to spare no expense in building it, which means he wants to splurge on a fast processor, a quality sysem board and every bell and whistle he can fathom.

I find it fairly easy to get deals nearly as good as these "doorbusters" just by contacting the the customer service department for their online orders and asking them if they will match the price, and if they can't, if they'll give me a discount.  At this time of year, companies are looking for any business and customers they can get.

Kohl's and Bed, Bath, & Beyond have it down.  Throughout the yea they send coupons, enticing the customer to come in and "save 15%" or "save $20."  Even if they make $5 off a customer, they're making a profit off that customer.
