BIG Question...???

Still waiting on a veneer answer? Warmoth will put a wide variety of species on your top, and they're not veneers. They're actual 1/4"+ panels, which is much better than a veneer. You sorta need some special equipment to do veneers, if you're thinking of doing it yourself. You need a vacuum clamp and an evacuating pump. They're not terribly expensive if you're going to do a lot of veneering and can amortize the tool cost over numerous pieces, but for a one-off they're a bit much. Figure starting around $400 and going up rapidly from there. At that rate, you can have a solid body made of whatever wood you'd like rather than play with veneers.

Hmmmmmm..... I was under the impression that it would involve a clamp and some veneering cold glue.... I just wanted to do the head... :/

Oh, ok. Well, on the headstock you could probably get away with that. It's a small part, easily clamped evenly. And yes, Woodcraft is a decent source of veneers. Not as thorough as the one I linked to above, but a decent selection of the usual suspects.

if you're gonna veneer a Strat or Tele headstock, you might also try putting some plastic wrap over the un-veneered headstock, and then use Bondo or some other hard-curing resin to make a clamping caul that will accurately replicate the curve of the headstock as it swoops up from the broad flat expanse up to the nut.  Just a thought.
