BBQ Floyd: A Roasted Maple, Floyded Strat

She's done!  This is my number one, even surpassing my old purple tele.

Finally the perfect parts have come together in perfect homogeneity after years of trial and error.

The shocker are the electronics!  I'm beside myself with these Dimarzios (VV 54 Pro, Area 67, and Breed). They are quiet and very toneful. Complete opposite of my past experiences with them. I have never enjoyed noisefree singles before and the Middle position is amazing. Usually my least fav. The bridge sounds amazing split!

Another observation is that I find floating floyds hold tune much better than decked ones.

The neck profile is outstanding, thin with a comfy contour that fits my hand perfectly. 10-16" fretboard radius with perfect frets requiring no work for low action.

Glad you're happy Brother, she's a looker for sure! Love it when a plan comes together so well. Congrats on your new axe.  :icon_thumright:

Thanks my man.  Now I can get back to playing lol.  I'll be done with projects for a while once a couple more amp parts arrive and I can finally finish my rebuild.

Looks like a winner.  I'm with you on Floyds that float.

Was the neck from Warmoth in the end?

There was a thread a little while ago where the lock nut was protruding past the shelf from a showcase neck. I assume this is not the case if you have a neck built?

Hey hey. Thanks for the kind words.  This is a competotor's neck (usacg). Took a cjamce out of desperation for certain options and they nailed it.

Off topic, I have Elixir custom lights on this and it's an amazing.  9-46 gauge is perfect for my style.

I just love 9-46's. I use Ernie Ball "Hybrid Slinky" 9-46 strings on my short scale electrics. On the acoustic side, I recently switched from Elixir "Nanoweb" 10-47's to RotoSound, phosphor bronze, JK9 "jumbo king" 9-48's on my SST Custom. Amazingly good tone considering the extreme light gauge, but then again it is a "solid body" acoustic meant to be played amplified.

On a side note, and also quite off topic, I just found a set of Elixir "Polyweb" custom light, phosphor bronze, 11-52's in my string box. Good acoustic strings, but I'll never use them, Polyweb strings are too subdued for me. Anybody have a use for them?

You must be able to bend two full notes. I use 11-52's on my 24-3/4" neck. :icon_thumright:

Three half steps, though I seldom do. I just prefer the reduced tension.

I may have to try it one of these days. Sounds like fun.

Thanks, Frank, you are welcome.

I also use Elixir Custom 9 - 46 most of the time these days. Even my Les Paul has them, great for those Page type bends.

Two exceptions my Hamer has 9 - 42s mainly because it always has had. And my Yngwie Strat has 8 - 46 which is a lot of fun on a scalloped board.

Thanks again for the great round of comments.

These pickups.  Still enjoying them, but missing some of the dynamics that good singles provide.  However - they sound really good and are dead silent.  In fact, I've owned 3-4 sets of Kinmans and these blow them all out of the water.  These sound really, really nice.  If I find I'm not 100% on board with these, then I'll swap em with the pickups in my #2 (Bare Knuckle Abraxas and 2 Duncan Antiquity Vintage Hots).  Either way, I want to keep these.
