So let me get this strait, putting wet sponges on my nipples and connecting them to a car battery ISN'T going to electrocute me?

Great, now I need to change my plans for Saturday night.

Nope. You won't feel a thing. But if you are still feeling kinky, you can put the clamps on other places.  :blob7:

Haha!

I can vouch though, that if you hold a guitar in your right hand with your hand on string ground, and you touch a loose wire hanging off an unsupported tone control in the HV plate circuit of an EL-84 amp with a 330V DC bias and a 200VAC signal riding on it, that you WILL receive a nasty shock... felt like someone jabbed an icepick straight up the bone of my left index finger, alld the way to the 2nd knuckle.

er - yea.  Why the hell did you have an unsupported tone control flopping in the breeze like that?

Short answer: stupidity of youth.

It was a quick and dirty experiment in post power stage tone shaping. Even for Q&D it shoulda been a bit more robust.

Just block one of the slots off with a piece of wood or tape or something.

pretty simple.

There's no need for that. The battery box can just be empty.

I've done that before with a nice body that had been routed for a battery box. Just put the box in the hole cut for it, and call it a love story. Don't have to use it. Still looks relatively normal.

I went with the parallel wiring option, everything worked out great. I'm betting the batteries last quite a long time before he has to replace them.

I usually take a flurry of pics with the guitar/bass in front of my fireplace, but was in a rush to get it to the buyer. He's ecstatic over the finished piece, loves the look of it, and has been receiving compliments on it for it's sound as well as it's looks. Hopefully, I'll keep busy enough to have something on my bench throughout the year. I'm currently running behind, with a telecaster in the works, and 2 builds plus a restoration of a '63(?) Jazzmaster on the shelf.

My bass customer has promised to send me some pics in the near future, but I do have one photo I took of the body to send to a close friend who lives out west (see below). I'm pleased with the results, and may revisit this type of finish for a build down the road.
