I've tried a few searches here and don't see an answer.  The Warmoth site is either not completely clear in this respect or I'm just not looking in the right place.

QUESTION:

Can I put a WARMOTH 5-STRING Bass Neck on a 4-string FENDER Squier 'Classic Vibe' Jazz Base body?  The Squier is a 4-string 34" scale, 20 fret neck.

I'd like to put a Tele Deluxe 5 if it would fit the neck pocket.  Otherwise, one of their other 5-string necks.  Anyone out there have experience fitting a Warmoth 5-string neck to a Fender 4-string body?

Thanks for any replies...

I'm pretty sure that's not going to work, for multiple reasons, but mainly the neck pockets are different sizes.

Warmoth says this about their Bass Neck HEELS:

"The over hung fingerboard is a direct replacement for 20 fret Fender bass necks. No modifications are necessary. The fingerboards simply extends over the pickguard.

With the exception of some of the Tele® head basses, all the Fender basses have a standard rounded heel (see picture). Some Tele® head models feature squared heels, Warmoth does not offer squared heel necks."

Thanks for the reply Kyler.

I'm still a little confused as to the neck pocket sizes...   The above excerpt is directly under the specs for both 4 and 5-string bass necks.   http://www.warmoth.com/Bass/Necks/faq1.aspx

To me this seems to say that Warmoth's bass neck pockets fit standard 20-fret Fender bass bodies...   (except for SOME square heeled Tele-necks).

Are you sure the neck pockets are different?

The other thing Warmoth mentions is to use a longer scale neck (35" instead of 34") to overcome a floppy low-B string.  Assuming the Warmoth neck fits the Fender neck pocket, Is this just a matter of putting the longer scale neck on a standard Fender body and adjusting the intonation to match the scale of the new neck?

I'm 99% positive, I'm doing a little assumption here, but a Warmoth 4 string replacement neck for a jazz/P-bass is going to match fender specs for a four string bass neck pocket/your bass. (see first pic)

And a Five string Warmoth neck is going to match fenders specs for a five string bass neck pocket (second pic) They're obviously different.

2.5 inches across equals to 63.5 mm and 3.875 inches is 98.425mm, Yea, warmoth could have made that more clear by putting both of those neck pocket specs in the same unit of measurement  :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch:

But that's what you were looking for. The neck pocket/neck heel specs don't quite match up, but it can be modified to work (as most things can be) But as they come from Warmoth, no, it won't work as a drop in replacement without modification.

Sorry to keep putting post after post instead of just putting this all on one post.. But I keep thinking of more to say.  :tard: DON'T JUDGE ME!!  :laughing7:

I do believe what they mean exactly by that is that a 4 string neck will fit a four string fender (except for "some of the Tele® head basses") and they're 5 strings will fit a 5 string fender body, but that's not saying anything for what you're trying to do, except that both the 4 and 5 string necks both have rounded heels (of different dimensions).

Neck pockets on a 5-string and a 4-string are much different as is the distance to the pocket to the bridge. Short answer; no, 4 and 5 string necks cannot be interchanged on the same body.
