It may be heretical, but the real issue is that the Strat-style recessed jack is often kind of rough or incompletely plated on the reverse, so turning it inside-out looks like crap.

Yeah, even the Tele bass 2-knob plate i got for the jr Tele was super rough on the reverse, even though its flat as a pancake and doesnt have the strat well to get in the way of polishing. Too rough to use for a lefty plate.
