I am doing a honey burst swamp ash Tele. I started with Aqua Coat as a grain filler. Then coated it sanding sealer and so far a honey brown color coat. I haven't done the final clear coats yet.
If you look at the grain you can see that the grain started shrink back. I decided to live with that. Somewhere along the line I chipped the finish on the back. I then thought to mix some Aqua Coat with a brown and use it to fill the chips. They were very small. It worked ok, but the Aqua Coat wasn't even with the finish so I refilled it a few times. I spread some of the aqua coat over the area with a credit card to try to get it even. I figured I would just lightly sand it back. The problem is that it is not sanding back at the same rate as the nitro finish. The nitro goes quicker. It actually smooths out the grain and actually looks good where the Aqua Coat is.
I was wonder if at this point I could apply another coat of Aqua Coat to fill the grain and then clear coat over it? I just want to get this thing done. I already sanded the whole thing back once before. This is my 4th build and my guitars always look a little rustic anyway. I don't need to "relic" it.
I couldn't get a decent picture of the Aqua coat on the back show up with my phone camera. I can definitely see it in the right light.
Am I going to run into problems with the Aqua Coat at this stage? Will it adhere okay?
Perhaps I should just sand it back and start all over again. I screwed up the honey burst a bit anyway. Any thoughts are appreciated.
