Anyone following the Stanley Cup final?

TJD: Habs fans are easily the worst in all of sports. In hockey, Sens fans come second for their obliviousness, followed by Boston fans for the simple fact that they root for the Bruins.  :icon_jokercolor:

Easy there .... I can think of several cities whose sports fans out-unclass everyone, and Montreal isn't even in the top 10.  As far as hockey goes, I can see Habs fans as being some of the most hated, simply because of the passion they have for the team.  When you get 21000 referees booing a non-call, it is because they understand the game, and ANY fan will want calls to go their team's way.  Yes, there are idiots in Montreal who call themselves Habs fans, but Habs fans, for the most part, are good people and great fans :icon_thumright:
And as far as obliviousness goes, Toronto is #1, hands down.  For a team that is supposed to "compete for the Cup this year" every year, and haven't even made the playoffs in 7 seasons, that is cluelessness coupled with dilusion, with an added dose of non-reality thrown in for good measure.

For my money, Phillidelphia fans are the worst in hockey, as they will actually get violent with fans wearing an opposing team's jersey ... and that is completely unacceptable in every way possible.

^^Philadelphia Eagles (football) fans have quite a reputation too.

Sens fan here, happy to be in second place

Yeah, you're right, I was a little harsh. Too early in the morning to be posting I guess.  :laughing7:

I can accept that being a Bruins fan. I won't even let Lakers or Yankees fans on my property. :icon_biggrin:

Heck of a game tonight....

...... eh?
Ohh yah!  You betcha! (although that may be more Upper Peninsula Yooper that it is Canadian)

The game looked great, and I was happy to see Luongo have his A-game last night. I just hope that he can pull it off on the road just once in the series. However, even if they can't pull it off on Monday, they have to play in Vancouver for game seven.

Also, I'm not a basketball fan by any means, but I do want to see Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks beat out the Heat. Dirk and his crew have worked their way up, compared to Miami, who was put together almost on the Jerry Jones approach of buying a championship. Plus, while I can see how talented LeBron James is, he's also very much over-hyped by the media. Anyone who gets an hour of ESPN time to tell everyone that he's switching teams is almost a little too proud for me. Besides, anyone who can be the top scorer of a game with a fever, flu and bad tendon in your hand earns my respect.

Boston won the Cup. I watched the whole thing on the CBC, and after the game, Peter Mansbridge and the crew of "The National" began reporting that Vancouver is more or less a war zone, with bonfires buring, windows broken, litter everywhere, profanity being yelled towards every camera and police SWAT teams focusing primarily around the area of the Canucks' arena.

Just like what happened in Montreal a few years back, these were crimes of opportunity, mostly perpetrated by non-hockey fans, but people who want to cause trouble.  It is too bad the that the city is going to get a black eye for what happened.
What sucks the most (back to hockey here) is that Vancouver played a great first period, then essentially gave up after the first goal.  There were alot of penalties that weren't called (on both sides), which worked in Boston's favour.  Anyway, I am not happy with the result, but Boston (and especially Thomas) fought hard for the right to hold the Cup over thier heads .... good for them.

Agreed. While I was rooting for Vancouver, I am happy that a hockey team from a hockey part of the country/continent did win one. Plus, Boston is an Original Six team--its hard not to pull for a team who has been around close to a century.

This just adds to the good times Boston has seen in the past ten years with their sports teams. In the past decade (since 2001 to date), they've racked up one Stanley Cup, a Larry O'Brien trophy, two Commissioner's Trophies, and three Lombardi Trophies. That's a lotta metal.

was watching a hockey game and a riot broke out

from such a nice soft sport

Good thing it wasn´t boxing or full contact karate.  :icon_jokercolor:

Seriously - please don't judge a sport on the actions of some of it's followers which generally reflects certain problems in the society and not in the sport.

I have just seen the rioting on the news, blimey.

It is really too bad that the world's media outlets are covering this in the way they are .... 'cause if it bleeds, it leads.
What nobody is talking about is the volunteers that have come out through a Facebook page to help clean up the mess.

Once again, these were opportunistic hoodlems who started this, and dragged a bunch of alcohol-fueled idiots down with them ....  they were not hockey fans.

This guy has to take home the congeniality award:

I know hockey season is over, but the announcement was made for next year's New Years Day Winter Classic. Philly is going to play the Rangers at Citizen's Bank Field in Philly.
