Anyone following the Stanley Cup final?

Anyone you want to see win over anyone else?  Also, anyone have a pro or con take on the Atlanta Thrashers moving to Winnipeg?

As a die-hard Canadiens fan who hates everything Bruins, my support is fully behind Vancouver ... which it would have been even if Tampa Bay had made it into the finals.
I would love to see the Cup come back to the country where ice occurs naturally between all of its borders.  For that same reason, I am thrilled that Winnipeg has gotten its team back.  Its too bad that Atlanta lost out, but this is the second time the city has lost thier team (the Atlanta Flames became the Calgary Flames in 1980), so it is obvious that the majority of people in Georgia are not hockey fans.  I still think it is great that there are cities in the southern states that support thier teams (Dallas, LA, Tampa Bay) but when places like Pheonix basically have to give away tickets to get people to go to the games, the team should go to a city (Canadian or American) where they know the fan base has ice in their veins!

Yes! The Québec City Coyotes! Bring back the Nordiques!  :icon_thumright:

That said, I'm a Sabres fan for some reason, so my season ended a while ago. Nonetheless, go Canucks!

I'm a devout Wings fan myself, and really am rooting for Vancouver due to the fact that they were able to axe San Jose so well. Plus, I feel Canada deserves a real chance to bring their trophy home to them. I'm also ecstatic about seeing Winnipeg get a hockey team back again, and also the fact that there's a real good chance that they'll be named the Jets again. I really hope something can be done to transfer the old records and retired numbers back to Winnipeg if they do retain the Jets name. Names like Bobby Hull and Dale Hawerchuk throw more weight around up there than they do in Phoenix.

I agree at the fact that I'm not really much of a Bruins fan either--the only aspects of Bruins lore that I actually like is Don Cherry, and that's more due to watching him on Coach's Corner. To me, the thing that really ruins me on sports in Boston are its fans, which are pretty much on par with Philadelphia fans in regards to bad attitudes. They've won three Super Bowls and two World Series in the past twelve years--they've won enough in my book.

Hey, Not all of us Flyer fans have bad attitudes, or should I say "addytoodes". Rooting for the Canucks to win it all. Would be paying more attention to the finals if the Flyers were in it though. But that idiot Bobby Clarke and his drunk monkey Paul Holmgren think all we need is a sack of onions hanging from the crossbar instead of a stud goalie!! Geez, we can't even beat our way to a Cup anymore. Winnepeg is as good a place as any for the Thrashers/Jets.

Well, even as a born-and-raised Canadian, Don Cherry is becoming more and more irrelevant to me.  These days, he is nothing but a Leaf blow-hard, which figures, as our supposed national broadcaster, the CBC, is based in Toronto and shoves that lame-a$$ team down our throats every Saturday night.  I much prefer TSN's coverage of hockey, and hope that one day soon they earn the rights to the Saturday night games, as they already play TONS of weeknight games.

It's funny what you say about Boston and Philly fans, as they would probably say the same about Montreal fans.  It is ideed true that Habs fans are behind their team, win or tie .... and there are no more ties in the NHL!!  The fact is that Montreal has surprisingly sophisticated and extremely passionate hockey fans, but with an unfortunate few morons who feel that booing the US national anthem is OK.  What makes me laugh about Boston's fans is that whenever they score, the crowd goes into the USA chant ... perhaps not realising that there are more Canadians and Europeans on their team than Americans!!  I guess it is true that you cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey more than the name on the back of it.

Regardless ... GO 'NUCKS GO!!!!!

I don't see it because I can't. Else I would of course cheer on for Jannik Hansen and Vancouver Canucks  :hello2: yeah ... just because he's a Dane.  :cool01:

I agree not everyone fits the stereotype in any situation, but you gotta admit that the precedent was set when Eagles fans booed Santa Claus.

I do, however, have several reasons for disliking Philadelphia sports, such as:  Chris Pronger, Buddy Ryan, Andy Reid, the 2008 Phillies (beat out my Brewers in the NLDS), Allen Iverson (another blow to the city of Milwaukee in 2001), the "Body Bag Game," the 1960 NFL championship game,  and, to me, the biggest blow, "4th and 26."

Graffiti62, Santa's over rated!!  Seriously though, I'll agree that was a low point. I was at a World Series game in '93 in the upper deck of Vet Stadium (the infamous 700 level) and watched the entire section cheering while one of the Philadelphia Police just pummeled some guy with a night stick. According to some people he was sitting near "it was well deserved". Let me go through your list.

Pronger- I agree, never liked him
Ryan- absolute worst game day coach ever!
Reid- see above. He wins just enough to not get fired
2008 Phillies- I understand your dislike, but Hell, we have been waiting a long time for another WS Championship. The Phils are the one team I'll root for til the day I die. I remember freaking out when we traded my favorite Phillie, Rick Wise to the Cardinals for some Loser named Steve Carlton. (That kinda worked out okay in the long run).
Iverson- garden variety thug. Stopped watching the Sixers when Dr. J retired.
Body Bag Game- See Ryan above. You really have to hate the Cowboys to like that one.
1960 NFL Championship- I can't say, before my time.
Ahhh  "4th and 26"- only catch that idiot Mitchell ever made.

So if there were any doubt that Winnipeg wanted an NHL team ....
They sold 13000 season tickets in a grand total of 17 minutes!!!!

And Vancouver is leading Boston 1-0 as I type this.

GO 'NUCKS GO!!!!!

Nope. watching the Dallas/Miami NBA finals; thought the Mavs were toast in the 4th quarter, after that comeback, there's no telling what will happen now, could go either way/seven games to find out.

Vancouver 3-2 over Boston in overtime!

So my wife has this theory that whenever a Canadian City hosts an Olympic games (winter or summer), their team wins the Stanley cup the next season.

Very curious to see if she'll be right.

Don't broadcast that too loudly--think of the chaos that would occur if that turned out to be true and folks in Toronto found out. It would either take the Olympics coming to Toronto, or burning Tannenbaum and Peddie at the stake, in addition to getting Scotty Bowman to help architect everything, for the Leafs to get the Stanley Cup again.

remember when hockey went on strike about 5-6 years ago? and there was no hockey on TV? That was a great year.

I had to resort to watching women's curling on the CBC.  :icon_tongue:

But in my defense, some of those lady curlers were cuties.

To me, hockey was always a great alternative to football, plus it was something to watch after the football season ended, plus hockey season starts in the fall and rarely runs on a Sunday. I'll watch the baseball highlights on ESPN, but I can't stand to watch a game from start to finish, and I absolutely hate basketball--always have. Auto racing I can watch and keep an ear on while I read the paper or take a nap in the chair and put attention back onto it when there's something exciting going on. Unfortunately, I was always the only one in my family that liked hockey--all my mom ever knew about the sport was that she thought Wayne Gretzky was cute, my brother hates sports in general, and my dad never watched it as a kid, which meant he never showed much interest in it as an adult. Plus, going to a school that has a Division 1 hockey team made things fun as well.
