Rant Alert...
See i hate today's teen culture, like absolute hate it, and the pop culture. All the real fun seems to be sucked out of it all, people think they are the top man of whatever shitty groups they are into, too many people beleive they matter. It annoys me. I wish i could have been a teen in the 80's when all this great music was kicking off, you show most of todays teens something like anthrax or huey lewis and they think its gay and old. well i'd rather be gay and old then young and full of shit.
In my opinion the 80s was the height of musical prowess, sure it was very image driven but what isnt? i'd rather support something over the top then something down to earth like the whole brit pop thing in the 90's i hate this whole "'im just a common man with a guitar and a band" when its clearly a pile of ass, and now we have "im just a little princess with an excess desire for shoes and gold outfits" now we have music that tries to be as awesome as the 80's and just fails. Teens need to grow a pair of testicals and stop acting like they are just as popular as micheal jackson.

I liked the grand total of about 10 songs in the last 10 years, the hook lines in todays pop music are terrible. nothing has inspired me to purchase their music in anyway, which is a fail as far as im concerned. I'm sure the majority of young people would disagree with me since they are selling lots of records, but i hear that these artists in the charts aren't selling anywhere near as many records as the counterparts in the 80's and before. I hear the record companies are blaming it on illegal downloads, I blame it on shite music.
@Autobat, You can't judge certain artists music as proof of a terrible decade cause thats immensely subjective. But mainstream wise i personally beleive todays music is bullshite. Majorly, the image is one of spoilt brats whining about having to work for a living.

And I think there's just as much good pop music today as in the 80s. It's not really all that different, basically you've got a small handful of talented people, and the occasional great song from a one-hit wonder, and the majority is still a sea of hip-hop garbage.

Yeah, the "kids today don't get it" arguement is old, especially if you're pointing to the 80s as the best music ever made. In another 20+ years, kids now will say "bands just aren't as good as they were in 2010." My grandfather hated my Dad's music, and my Dad's music is Bob Dylan, Zep, Skynard, etc.
