Another first time builder

Hey there, my idea for my first build all started with the fender modern player plus guitars. Around the same time I discovered those guitars I also stumbled upon a review of a 71 all rosewood telecaster which sparked a lot of interest. So with out anymore jabbering my idea is a walnut body with a rosewood top and a wenge neck with ebony finger board and a HSS route. Does anyone have any experience with any of these combinations of woods? Should I consider a chambered walnut body, I hear they can be a bit heavy. Another option is to put together an all rosewood tele. Any advice or feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks

the different scenarios you present all sound like fine instruments.  they also sound like $$$, so decide for yourself and jump in with both feet!!

An all-rosewood body is gonna run you a pretty penny, so if cost is an issue, go with a rosewood lam on top of walnut.


Like walnut, rosewood can also be pretty dense - so yes, you might consider chambering to lose some weight.


I am fond of my wenge necks, but on the few occasions I have had a chance to play rosewood necks I have found them very smooth and comfy to play as well.  They are definitely different feeling woods.

If you haven't been through the Showcase yet, here's a list of bodies in stock made of Rosewood or Walnut. Very sexy parts.

Ebony over Wenge necks are popular, so there's quite a selection of those in the Showcase as well. Be sure to put stainless steel frets on one.

Thanks guys I appreciate the input. It's a little mind boggling with the amount of options available. I know there's a lot more than go into tone but what can I generally expect from a walnut body (I understand the rose wood would be to thin to matter much) and a wenge/ebony neck? I assume on the bright side of things but I have very little experience with these woods. One things for sure, they are pretty easy on the eyes!
