I have been playing on a mid 1990's American made Ampeg B3 15/8 150 watt biamp. It has a 15" for the lows and an 8" for the highs and a 9 band equilizer, plua a -15 dB pad for some extra gain. The sound is warm at the bottom and clean at the top, very rad. The amp has a crossover that sends power to each of the speakers at the cross over and more to either speaker depending on pot position. 50w to the 8" and 100w to the 15" - That is the biamp feature. Does anyone know if more about these amps or biamps in general? Is it really 150 watts at the cross over point? I am thinking of replacing the 8" with a newer more responsive 8ohm speaker, any suggestions? I love Ampeg products, but IMHO you gotta look for the older American made amps to get the quality most bass players require. Currently, I'm building a Warmoth G4 short scale bass.
