American Standard Strat Tremolo Bushings

Just bought my first Warmoth Strat body routed for the American Standard two post tremolo bridge. I've never installed the bridge bushings before. I understand that they are press-fit, but do I use any glue? Should I use a little soap or wax to lube the bushings before pushing them in?

I put some in quite recently. On my body, the holes were drilled after the finish was put on, so they were completely clean. I just tapped them in gently with a hammer. Easy.

If the finish was put on after the holes then you might want to use a hand reamer to clean it out a little first. But it's not a big deal. The main risk is hitting the rest of the body with your hammer! I use a thick piece of leather for protection.

I concur with Jumble2.

I used a deadblow hammer to avoid a glancing shot that could end up making me use swear words.

Other folks have had good luck pressing the bushings in with a drill press or an arbor press.  Probably safer, since it's much better controlled.

A small hammer and a wooden caul works well. Just be sure the bushings are straight so as to avoid damaging the edges of the holes.

Don't listen to those guys, Mr. Mclaren. Getting those bushings in is not a trivial task. You need a series of 400 ton Bliss stamping presses to progressively hammer those babies in, like this line at Fender Musical Instruments Company's custom shop...

Each one progressively hammers the little bastards in another millimeter or so, with the final die set having some offsets to place them just below the surface of the guitar's face.

Who doesn't? Just don't forget to adjust the pressure setting from "Flatten Terminator" to "Install Bushings". Don't ask me how I know.
