Alumitone humbuckers coil splitting?

Hey,

I posed this question about a week ago in an e-mail to Lace.  No response, so I'll try here.
Does anyone know if the Lace Sensor Alumitone humbuckers have a coil splitting option?
I'm thinking about using these in an upcoming baritone build.

I saw this link on their website which seems to imply so:
http://www.lacemusic.com/wiring/pdf/13.pdf

But, there may be those that are splitting, and those that aren't.
Just wanted to be sure.

Thanks,
James

Hannaugh had got a set for her BlueBurst LP from Lace himself.  She was told they were splitable, but the ones she received weren't.  Doesn't really answer your question though.

That does help validate my concern though.
Thanks for the info.

James

Considering the diagram shows a split, and they are 4 conductor (yes I know it doesn't always indicate you can split) I would say, sure.... it looks like you can split 'em.

If there are 4 conductors, you can split.

4 wires = two coils = splittable

Actually SD Vintage Rails and Duckbuckers are 4 conductor PU's, but are meant to either be Series or Paralell, but not split.    If you split it, it actually turns off half the pickup, so you only get the G, B and high E string  (trust me, I found this out the hard way)  :-)

But normally, yeah.... 4 conductors equals two coils equals splittable.

Yeh I find it hard to believe, somewhere there is 2 coils, and if you get the windings in the right direction they will be split. and by split, I mean turning off the humbuckerness and making it a single coil

Does anybody not understand what Is meant by splitting a humbucker. Draw me a diagram of what you mean and I will show you how to split it. I think your hard way is wrong, I've wound a ton of pups in all configurations, so I feel I know what I'm talking about, but maybe not, draw me a picture

It's only those two pickups that I'm aware of.  I'm not sure what it is Seymour Duncan did, but the magnets are criss crossed(they call it split rails), the magnets are like an X rather than side by side.  For some reason, when you hook up only one side like you normally would with any other 4 conductor pickup to split it, it only gives you the signal from one half of the pickup.

It would make sense that even if they were crossed you'd still get half of one, then half of the other, but nope....  completely kills one side essentially making a split of a split.  I'm honestly not sure what it is.  Something they're doing internally at the point the two rails meet and it's shorting out, or perhaps it is only one rail and is technically a single coil cut in half, and they've got some sort of noise canceling thing going on with the other two conductor wires.    (just guessing here)

Like I said, I learned the hard way.  I'm the split king, I wire all my guitars with crazy switches, but that Vintage Rail is unsplittable.  It's completely bizarre.

Ok, so I've been thinking this over more, and I think I've figured out why it's 4 conductor and unsplittable.   It's because it's technically a single coil cut in half and each half is wired as if it's its own pickup.

Sorry for the bad drawing.  Windows Paint at work. :-)  The top is a normal 4 conductor humbucker, the bottom is a 4 conductor like the SD Vintage rails or duckbucker.

Yeah, it's the P bass pup design. Fralin makes at least two different models like this too.
